Well, the waiting is over, and it's time to reveal the latest of the Mystic Forest Dwellers ventures I've been teasing you about for months. Ready?

A few months ago I met the fabulous Lauren Steil and got the incredible opportunity to make some laser cut jewelry. I've been very intrigued by laser cutting and the ideas started flowing right away. Lots of scribbling, testing and design discussions ensued (working with Lauren was just super fun) and the results are now in front of you.

Things to Come

Wow, this silence has been longer than planned, hasn't it? Some projects just need to simmer a bit longer, but we're all ready now, and so excited about it! And so, without farther a due - a brand new line of products has come to Mystic Forest Dwellers and it will be revealed this coming Wednesday, November 23^rd, so stay tuned. Preview? OK.

On a totally different note, a new dweller is coming to Mystic Forest. But... it's not the plushy kind.

Happy fall, forest friends (and a happy Jewish New Year)!

Things are gathering momentum here in Mystic Forest, preparing for craft shows, gallery shows and the upcoming holidays. Yep, fall is craft season. My favorite.

The next product in the Mystic Forest Dwellers line-up is still under wraps, and isn't actually a part of our survey options, but an opportunity presented itself and I just couldn't help myself (didn't hurt that the opportunity maker is such a super person). Guess what this is?

Things are hectic otherwise. Plush You is right around the corner and holiday products planning is well under way too. And if that's not enough, I also go a new computer, to be able to design all these for you faster and better. Life is good, I hope yours is too.

Anatomy of A WIP

I love making things. The thrill of the "Ooh! That's a cool idea!", the debates of "Hmm... Should I make it this way or that?", even the "Oh, that's not going to work... Arrgg!" - and of course, the best part is "Wow! That came out perfect!"

Sometimes that process takes a couple of days from start to finish. Sometimes, a few months, or a lot. Sometimes I know exactly how I want it to turn out, and sometimes I have a vague Idea. Usually, I start with some scribbles. Lots of scribbles. The best scribbles are done during meetings. Mark my words.

Yeah, that's my work-in-progress and inspiration board (both, fairly tidy, not their usual state). And yes, that's a drawing of me galloping away on a Fenwick, drawn by my friend Carrie.

The designs are finalized (these are the stamp designs I've just completed). I cleaned them up digitally to get a crisp, clean line and on my Cintiq.

I'm very particular - I need everything to be of precise size, shape and color. Many measurements need to be taken - in this case: line thickness for the stamps, stamp size and box sizes (for a future product!)

Then, it's testing time. I make or order most materials in bulk, so trying out what the end result will look like before ordering is important. I can get samples of some materials, then try different ways of putting them together. If I can't - I improvise!

And when all the planning, doodling, debating and testing is done - all that's left to do is put things together - and get them to you!

Hooray! A complete new product is born... and I go back to my sketchbook, to decide on what to make next.

Hello tree friends!

I've been scribbling a little Forest Dweller saying "Thank You!" on every sales receipt for the longest time. But they don't always come out right, and being the perfectionist that I am, I would toss it into the shredder and print a new one.

So what if I could have a perfect drawing every time? Easy! Make a stamp for it. And that's exactly what I did.

I'm a "little bit" obsessed with it. I've been stamping everything from receipts, to post-it notes, to my friends hands with this thing for two days. So incredibly much fun. So the next time you purchase Mystic Forest Dwellers goods - you'll see this little guy too, saying:

Some Things are Just Special

I love doing commission work, especially when it's for special people - for a special day. I've made a wedding cake topper a couple of years ago and it was so much fun. Recently, I was lucky to be asked to make one again (thankfully, not for the same couple).

The cake's theme was a nest - so a pair of birds was asked for. We went with robins, in a nest. The wedding was beautiful, I'm so honored and proud to have contributed to it - even a little.

Summer is a great season to travel, and so we had. This past week we've been to two forests - California's Big Sur, and The Wonder Forest. Creativity is Contagious

Creating things is often a solitary act, so getting to cooperate on an art piece is extra fun. Last month I had the incredible opportunity to participate in talented photographer Francesca Balaguer's latest portrait project Creativity is Contagious at Hands on 3^rd here in LA. And by "cooperate" I mean that I was the subject of the photograph. Yep, I voluntarily stepped in front of a camera (If you know me in person, please don't faint).
I came in very nervous, and ended up having a blast. Francesca was a real pleasure to work with. She really "got me", designed a super cute set-up for the shoot, and was a great director (and calmer of nerves). The end result - see for yourself!

He he, never knew I could be this evil, eh? That's me plotting plush world domination. Muwah-ha-ha!

On another note - there's still time to help me choose a name for my bike, and a chance to win some cool stuff!

The (Web) Adventure Continues

As promised, the shop has been stocked to the rafters with plush, as promised. Looks like I already need to plan the next update, phew! I have other shop news too - there's now a second Mystic Forest Dwellers shop on the interwebs! Yep, I'm going back to Etsy.

Many many eaons ago (or so it seems) I started a little shop called Paper Armadillo on Etsy, to sell what was then, the products of my over active imagination. That's also where many of my first plush experiments ended up, and were accepted with a lot of love. Etsy has really axpanded over the years, and I'm very excited to be back. On other news, I've had a very productive couple of weekends, and work on the new products is progressing well. I'm hoping to be able to share snippets very soon. The best thing is that I just got a new job which allows me more free time to imagine and work on new things. Double hooray!

How's 2011 treating you so far?

Here at Mystic Forest Dwellers headquarters, a whole lot is going on. A large shop re-stock is in the works and my desk is piled high with pieces of felt and faux fur. Fun!

What else is fun, is coming up with ideas for new projects and products for the Mystic Shop. My mind is absolutely buzzing with new ideas, alas - while I have plenty of ideas, I don't have plenty of time.

So here's a neat little thing for y'all. See this new little addition to the side bar? It's a survey! I want to hear from you what you'd like to see coming out of the shop next. I have a very important holiday shipping announcement:

I will be out of the country from December 18^th-January 3^rd, and so the last day of Holiday shipping will be December 17^th. You may continue shopping as you wish, but new orders won't ship until January 4^th. Cool? Cool.

All About The Fenwick

Hi forest friends!
Or should I say, Fenwick Friends. You do love that pink snooty-pant, don't you? Interesting creature, the Fenwick.

You might remember back in february or whatnot, I mentioned that I was overhauling the whole concept of Mystic Forest Dwellers? One of the things that changed was the designs.

I knew back than that I liked where they were going, but they weren't quite making my heart sing. So I moved on and came up with some new one - the ones you now know as the Jackalope's Cousine, the Snowy Wolverine, etc.

Oh, hang on - one of these guys looks familiar. It's ah... What's his name... Oh - Fenwick. Yep, somehow he stuck around, and seems like it's for a reason. Everyone loves a pink unicorn-llama-horsey-antilope-thing. Me too, I guess.

So - good news - The Uncommon Fenwick is back in stock! And to celebrate, now you can put the Fenwick exactly where you need him - on your desktop, watching and mocking your every mouse-move. Yep - we have freebies - desktop images! Get them below.

In which Mild Chaos Ensues

Hi kids!

Sorry for vanishing on you like this. One minute I open the shop and promise a lot of sparkly fun, and the next - woosh! - where did she go. What can you do, sometimes life give you unpitted prunes (prune juice, anyone?). Anywho, what's important is that the shop is open, orders are going out the door, and the fun will come in - just slower than planned.

Lots of fun seasonal stuff is in the works, which I'm really stoked about, including my very first craft show! But before I get you too excited about stuff I can't show yet - check out the final packaging for the plush:

I'm so in love with the logo stamp, I want more. I'm contemplating a "Thank you!" stamp (in the meantime, you get a doodle from me instead. Really!)

The tags I've been waiting on came in! It's been gray and rainig here all week, so no photos, but here's what they look like (front and back)

I used Moo's business cards for these, because they are the only printing service that lets you print multiple images in one, small batch, order. Cool, ah?

I also started a Flickr group (you can see it on the sidebar), for you to add photos of your Dwellers, hanging out at their new abode. Or fan art (ooh! I have some plans for that), or anything else Dwellers related, so come and join the party!

And as you might have seen, The Uncommon Fenwick has gone out of stock (holly cow, you guys love this funny fellow), but there's more in the works. Expect an excited re-stock announcement shortly.

Hi Forest Friends! It feels like I've just blinked a couple of times and it's already time for the big Mystic Forest Dwellers launch. Wow! Already?

The shop will open tomorrow morning, and I'm planning a little celebration, so stay tuned. In the meantime, behold some of the fun promotional stuff I've been working on - button packs!

I think I mentioned before how much I love designing packaging. Man, am I getting a lot of use of the logo stamp I got made. Whoo-hoo!

Just peeking my head above the mountain of plush in the studio (I'd post a photo, but it's really gruesome) to say hi, and show you my latest Non-Mystic Forest Dwellers related plush.
For this year's Plush You shows in LA and Seattle, I made one series in two parts. It's called They Came from Outer Space, featuring fun, fluffy aliens that reference all sorts of sci-fi reference. Let's see if you can figure them all out.

Happy October, tree lovers! October will be a great month. Next friday the annual Plush You will open in Seattle (look for some more of my They Came from Outer Space plush!), Mystic Forest Dwellers will officially open its virtual doors and some Christmas shenanigans will begin to figure themselves out. But let's go one exciting thing at a time, shall we?

Today, Pre-Order begins for Mystic Forest Dwellers! Here is how it's going to work:
1. You read the posts on this blog or on our Facebook page and decided that your life will not be complete without one of them Dwellers.
2. You go to the shop (Yep! That's where it lives, at least for now) and check out the price of the Dweller you'd like to bring home.
3. You write an enthusiastic email to infoATmysticforestdwellersDOTcom and let me know which Dweller you'd like, your address and what email address your paypal account is connected to (sorry, only paypal at the moment. Once the shop opens, you'll be able to pay with credit card/virtual check too)
4. I'll send you an invoice within 48 hours. Once you pay, your order will be secured!
5. Your very own Dweller will be sent to you after the shop opens on October 14th.

The Hairy Man of the Woods

If you looked up "gentle giant" in the dictionary, you'd find a picture of the Hairy Man of the Woods. He has a big heart that goes out to any living creature, big or small, and huge arms to match. He might look frightening coming out of the woods at night - but if he's after you, it's most likely for a hug. A very big hug.

The Snowy Wolverine

The Snowy Wolverine is grumpy. It's not that he doesn't want you to be happy or anything, it's that he'd rather you weren't so darn loud about it. Or about anything, for that matter. Especially not while near Mount Gloom, and most certainly not by his cave's door.

I got asked a couple of times how the pre-sale is going to work, and I'm not one hundred percent sure yet - but it will involve some form of a method to place an order for one of the characters for me to make in advance, just for you. Once the store opens, my plan is to try and have plush constantly in stock, but this is your chance to make sure you can get your hands on whichever character your heart desires, without having to wait.

Lots of work still to do before the shop is up and running. I bid you farewell, and see you tomorrow for another introduction of our forth dweller. Whoo-hoo!

The Uncommon Fenwick is quite a bit on the snooty side. He will take the best spot to graze in the meadow, he'll go first when it's time for a bath and he'll most likely insist he deserves the bigger slice of cake too. Some critters are just more special than others, and don't you forget that.

Joining the Jackalope's Cousin, The Uncommon Fenwick will be available for pre-order September 30th, and will be set free to annoy most of you on October 14th.

OK! So last week was rough, but this coming week will be super. You know why? There's no more bees, my sewing machine is all healthy, all the shipping materials are here, and we have new release dates to share. Ready?

Mystic Forest Dwellers will officially begin selling plush goodness on Thursday October 14th. This week, we will reveal a new design every day up to the beginning of the pre-sale, which will be Thursday September 30th. Crack your piggy banks and make room on your shelves kiddos because we are in business!

These guys just can't wait to meet you, and neither can I.

Not Expecting the Unexpected

Wow! So much for making big plans, scheduling yourself and announcing announcements... This week has been the dictionary definition of Murfey's Law in action, all events culminating in me having to delay the pre-sale and launch of Mystic Forest Dwellers.
First, my sewing machine broke down, then I had to stay late at work, and now I'm writing this post on my smart phone in the relative safety of my bedroom as our apartment is (I kid you not) under attack by a swarm of bees. Wow...
My hopes are that the delay will be only about a week or so, so stay tuned. If you see the progrese photos I was planning to post tonight on this here blog, you'll know I once again have access to my studio and can make plush for y'all (and that I haven't been stung to death, which will be good too).

Under Wraps

One thing I've always loved, is wrapping and packaging. Sometimes I think I started selling handmade stuff so that I could design and buy packaging supplies. This one, for example, is one of my favorites.
The concept for packaging Mystic Forest Dwellers was pretty simple - use the prominent colors of brown and green, use the logo, make it appealing (and keeping on budget wouldn't hurt either). I experimented a little:

The final decision is to go with the green tissue paper, with some constellation of punch leaves (yet to be experimented with. It's a Martha Stewart punch, BTW. I know you were curious), brown ink, and...

...the logo being stamped on it!
Yes, I got a stamp made of the logo, and I'm SO thrilled with how it came out. I used RubberStamps.net, and they were awesome. I spent way too much time last night stamping on every available surface. He he... I'm such a dork...

Unfortunately, our next installment of Dwellers introductions won't be happening tonight, as the Horned Owl wasn't feeling like having his picture taken (he's so cranky, usually). In the meantime, check out so "work in progress" shots from this weekend's "making stock" sewing marathon.

Meet The Jackalope's Cousin

Energetic, mischievous and full of life, the Jackalope's Cousin is usually up to no good. It lives in burrows under the grass covered hills, and has been reported to bite Fenwick's heels on occasion - just for fun (he get completely fuchsia when he's mad, it's hi-larious, trust me).

The Jackalope's Cousin will be available for pre-order September the 23^rd, 2010, and will be set free to mildly harm the world on the official launch of Mystic Forest Dwellers September the 30^th! That's right, you heard me. Official launch date. Told you much will be revealed. This children's artist ain't lying.

Plush You! Coming to LA

Plush You, if you've never heard about it, is one of the bigger annual plush shows. Back in 2007, I first participated in one, and I have to say - I don't know where I'd be plush-wise without it.
It takes place in Seattle once a year (usually in October), but this year, we're also having a show here in LA, at Munky King. So excited! If you live in the area, please do come in. It'll be awesome! I'll be there, as well as Kristen Rask of Schmancy, and a slew of other talented plush peeps.

Lights, Camera, Action!

This is photography week. Whoo-hoo! The prototypes are done, so it's time to strike a pose, for the website, promotional material, and the copyright office. I was going to make my own light box, like in this tutorial, Ant got me this super awesome professional light box that folds down flat. Cool! And I even found a cool background to shoot the tag photos against that I'm super excited about. Things are shaping up beautifully.
Another thing that is shaping up beautifully, is my new logo! Coming soon. Very soon. Yeepee!

Progress is made!

Mystic Forest Dwellers made some great strides this week! The prototypes are well on their way, and I'm so excited. Not only are my plush techniques seem to be working, I'm truly excited about how they're coming together. It's always been my favorite thing to watch the little scribbles I make come to life, but they very often come together so smoothly. I wish I could show you more than the image above, very soon, I promise!
No official launch date, as of yet. There's a lot of things to figure out still. Running a plush business is made of a lot of small things, like setting up a website, ordering shipping and packaging materials, buying ridiculous amounts of faux fur and felt (I just discovered the fashion district in downtown LA. Holly cow...), making up schedules for all the above. Who knew! Thank goodness for my production experience, he he.
I've also taken a pledge to blog here more often, so stay tuned for updates and progress reports. Yep, communicating with your fans is important for a plush business too.
I'm off to craft some more, see you next week!

Hi Kids! How've you been?
It's been a bit of a quiet month here, quiet but busy. And I can finally share with you one of the things I've been working on - and boy, am I excited!
I'll be teaching a plush making class! Yes, indeed. I've wanted to do this for a very long time, and the guys over at Blue Rooster Art Supplies thought it would be cool. How lucky am I?

If you live in the LA area and always wanted to try it, this is your chance. The class is for all levels, even if you never sewed a button and will take you from an original drawing (by you, your kids, your friend) to a finished plush piece to be proud of. Excited yet?

Cost: $150
Duration: 4 sessions (three hours each) 11am - 2pm
Upcoming Classes: Four Saturdays 6/19 - 7/10 & 8/7 - 8/28

Learn how to make plush toys of your own design! Plush toys are not just for kids anymore, they hang in galleries and high end shops around the country. If you ever wanted to learn how to make them, this class is for you.
The class will cover every step from the initial design drawing, through construction, pattern making, fabric choice and sewing. We will focus on creative problem solving and student's self expression. Please bring a drawing (a doodle will do, more than one is welcome too) you would like to turn into plush, and let's get started!
Our motto is to teach you how to make the plush you want to make, looking for creative ways to make it happen.

About the instructor:
Michal Wright-Ward is a designer and illustrator with a degree in animation. In her four years experience as a plush artist, her work has been featured and sold in galleries and shops around the U.S. and abroad. She draws her inspiration from children's books and the animal world. She hates the words "you can't". She lives in Los Angeles with a menegerie of pets, monsters, and one very patient husband.

What Some Forest Dwellers... Don't Look Like

Remember how I was telling you about some issues I came across a few weeks ago? Well, it wasn't just a technical issue. Some of it was conceptual as well.
The way I thought Mystic Forest Dwellers up sounded nice on paper, but as I was sewing the prototypes, my creative intuition was getting worried. What did I tell you about my creative intuition? I listen to it. Since February I've been re-working, not just the the construction of my plush, but the plush that I'm constructing. And I got to say - I'm glad I did, and I think you will too.
The end result is, however, that some plush I've already made is going the way of the Dodo - they'll will never go past the prototype stage. Sad? A bit - but that also means that I can finally show you something! Ready?

And worry not, this isn't quite the last you've seen of this little guy.

By the way, I will not have an update for you next week as I'll be out of town, celebrating getting (really) old. Feel free to send cupcakes and flowers (or fabric. Lots of fabric).

Flaunting It!

I recently ordered myself some new business cards. I've ran out of of my plush moo cards, and it was time to get some "grown up" business cards. I wanted something that will be unique, eye catching and will show potential client and employers who I am and what I do in one quick glance (and hopefully make them smile too. It helps). So I ran some ideas, did me some research and this is what I came up with.

These are not the real cards (yet). I made some mock-up cards, printing my top two designs into heavy, nice paper, then cut and glued front to back. Yep, they both feature Freddie.

This is the end result. Cool, ah?

I went with GreenerPrinter (I warmly recommend asking for samples from prospective printers). The cards came out perfect, the customer service was extremely friendly and helpful (I run a waaaaaay old version of Photoshop, I needed help with the file saving settings) and the cards came in right on time. So yeah, me super happy and proud (and looking for any excuse to hand them out). Love!
A couple of useful tips for you creative professionals about printers - there are a lot of printing services out there, some super cheap, some not so much. Asking for samples (and they should be free) is really important. Some printers are cheaper, but the quality of the product is not very impressive. Especially if you're a visual arts professional - your prospective client/employer/buyer can tell the difference, and it might be worth the investment of a few extra dollars to impress them.
Check the printing/processing/shipping time frame. The cheaper options might mean longer processing time. Shipping can be expensive too, looks like a lot of printers ship UPS or other pricier options. Don't forget to add both factors into your cost calculation when you compare printers.
And most important - don't rush it. Make sure your design isn't just fun, but functional, attention grabbing and easy to read. Try printing samples on your home computer and run them by friends and family. If they get it, and you like it - go for it.

Self promotion is important! Don't neglect it.

One of the things I get asked most often is how I find time to do everything I do. Ha. Truthfully, I often feel like I don't get anything done at all. There's just not enough time in the day. But when you want to do something - you make time.
Like with this guy - Freddie!

I haven't made any plush for myself since I started making plush and doing art shows (that's about three years now), and let me tell you - there were a number of guys I made that I almost didn't sell. So when I recently designed this little guy for some portfolio work - I decided he is it!
And check out the butt action... He he. I crack myself up sometimes, seriously...

Hi Kids, how have you been?
Sorry for the lengthy absence. A couple of "life" sort of things made me incredibly busy (but good busy) lately. "Life" also stopped me from finishing my Plush Olympic plush. Boo for me, but check out the super cool stuff people made! Super stiff competition.

Anywho, I have a question for y'all - Mystic Forest Dwellers is going to release embroidery patterns (yep! I'm super excited), and I need pattern testers. The patterns will be ready some time within a month, and I'll need testers in all levels, from total newbies who never embroidered before, to expert who will put me to shame (which is not very difficult, BTW). Sneaky Peeky!

Hello my peeps! How has your week been? Good I hope. It's been crazy busy here, as usual. Working my tail off on a drawing portfolio (yes, I do have a day job) and on the prototypes. Everything is going well, I'm happy to say, but my plans on quitting coffe (or at least, cutting back on its consumption) is not doing too well. Especially when I just rediscovered the joy of drawing people at cafes. Especially in or hipster neighborhood and it's constant supply of peculiar outfits, hair styles and tattoos. Hey, I love it here. I'm a weirdo too (he he).
So how do you like the new blog design? Cool, ah? The background is my own design, and is the fabric pattern I designed for the back of the Mystic Forest Dwellers plush. Yeepee! Feeling so accomplished.

This is a close up on my plush submission to Schmancy's Plush Olympic (it's currently on the sewing table). My sport is skiing which is awesome (although I'm a big sucker for figure skating, and no - I can't do either). So this fellow above is skiing! And more - it is the first plush series to be released! Whoo hoo! Excited yet? Heck - I am!

It's Working! It's Working!

Remember last week's post? I'm glad to report that after the dust settled (and the panic, and the heartache) it works! I retested one of the patterns and it's all good. Hooray! Now I know I can bring you awesome, fun, well made plush that I'll be proud to sell you. Such a relief!
Since everything is still under wraps (and not copyright protected yet), I can't show you much... yet. I am beginning to leak out information about this project, and I'm hoping to announce it soon (to my new followers - hi! You rock!). Soon we'll be on Facebook and the party can really start. What It's All About

I was once asked to write a few words on one of my "Ah-ha! moments as an artist. You know, one of those moments when you thump you forehead with you hand (or the desk) going "holy cow, I can't believe I didn't think about this sooner" or "ooooooh... NOW I get it" or any other such saying that expresses your transition from ignorant to knowledgeable and feeling really stupid about it.
That happens to me all the time.
Being self educated in sewing in general and plush making specifically, I learn a lot by trial and error, by making mistakes and keeping on trying. Sometimes I find the solution right away, sometimes I'll be almost done sewing a plush, then scrap it and start from scratch. Another thing is that I never tell myself "I can't do that" when I design a piece. Instead, I try to figure out how I can. That attitude made me come up with a lot of neat tricks, and gave me a lot of "Ah-ha!" moments. I've abused my forehead and my desk more times than you can imagine.

This week marked the first of three in which I was to complete the prototypes for all eight (yes, there are eight of them) plushes in the Mystic Forest Dwellers series. And things were going pretty smoothly until I started to the creepy gut feeling that something wasn't quite right. I'll spare you all the technical details, but I've learned long ago that if my creative gut tells me something is not quite right - it's usually right. And it was. Sigh...
I have to re-draft one of the plushes' patterns and test out the fix for the problem, then if it works (it'd better work) re-draft all the other seven plushes' patterns. Then I'll have to make the prototypes, again. Sigh... Sigh...
What this means is that the launch will have to be delayed, most likely, and the schedule be re-scheduled. Sigh... Sigh... Sigh

But you know what, that's ok. One of the things that make my plush work distinguishable "mine" is the fact that they are immaculate, every detail is in the right spot and perfectly executed, every piece looks exactly as I've envisioned it. That's me, I'm a crazy perfectionist. I confess. But I'm not going to give it up, not now, not ever. For me, it's about doing things right, or not doing them at all. And I think none of you will expect any less from me.

So stay tuned on the new launch date, kiddos. It's won't be a long delay. In the meantime here's a sneak peek of one of the eight plushes. Can you take a guess at what it is?

For Real

This week has been a bit slow. The patterns are done! Thank goodness. These took a bit longer than planned. Super glad I padded the production schedule (it paid off to be a PC). Next on my to do list - start sewing the prototypes (never start a series without sewing a prototype!) and order all the fabric I'll need.
I'm beginning to get excited and nervous. This is getting real, folks! Next week I'll have some finished pieces and lots of fabric lying around, and I'm beginning to work with my graphic designer to get the logo and other brand identity stuff set up. It's like - dude! I'm starting a business. For real! How strange is that?

Hi guys and gals!
How have you been lately? All recovered from the rain/snow storms? Good, looks like there's more coming (sheesh...).
Even with my dad here, I've been hard at work (not as hard, but still). The color scheme for all plush is complete and pattern drafting is half way done. Check it out!

Suki is doing quality control. I hope I pass!

Next week prototype sewing begins. I'm trying a few new sewing/pattern drafting techniques. I hope everything works out well. Wish me luck!
Oh, and the fabric swatch I ordered from SpoonFlower came out perfect! I'm excited. Mystic Forest Dwellers are going to have their back done in my first designed fabric pattern. Yay!

Hopefully, you're not too tired (yet) of me rambling about setting up shop, because that's all I can talk about (for now). My attorney won't let me post, discuss or show anything until I'm all copywritten. And she's right. But it's sad. Not for long, though!

I spent a nerve-wracking couple of days writing it down, figuring out exactly what is left to do (lots), padding due dates (and re-padding them) and marking everything on a calendar with colored pencils (yep, everything is color coded). So yeah, it's all figured out. The only thing left is to settle on a reveal date and the monthly launch date for each plush and product. Phew! I'll let you know when that's all set.
The really cool thing that happened this week is that I designed my first pattern! This pattern will be used on this blog and our future website and shop, as well at (well, that's the main thing, really) the fabric I will use for the back side of all Mystic Forest Dwellers plush. Yep, I'm getting my very own fabric printed. Yay! I did my research (my favorite part) and chose to go with SpoonFlower. I ordered a test swatch and I'm really excited (and nervous). What a cool thing to do, but it didn't come naturally to me. For someone who's such a pattern addict you'd think it would be...
Oh, and that happened this weekend too:

Yep, just minutes after I finished cleaning and tidying up my desk for the marathon design session planned for the long weekend - the wind started blowing rain through our studio's windows. Gosh... Go away, rain! I have so much work to do!

Working Away

It's been a very productive week over here. Busy productive, but good. Had a lengthy conversation with my future entertainment/copyright attorney. If you ever plan on selling your creative work, especially online - protect yourself. See Ashley Anna Brown's case.
I've finalized the designs for all the plush that will be a part of Mystic Forest Dwellers for this year, and I'm super stoked. I think you're going to like them.

I got fabric samples, did lots of research and got some price quotes for exciting future products. I'm literally buzzed and exhausted! Of course, I had Suki helping out a lot. She's such a great assistant.

Suki asks that you do not disturb her. There's a lot of work to be done.

Working, Working...

Hello monster friends!
I'm spending my Christmas/New Year break thinking up a storm. I'm thinking up designs, packaging, labels, logos and other ideas. Very exciting times, a bit nervous but excited. Nothing I can show yet, stay tuned!
I'm still trying to figure out the launch schedule and all the details. I'll have more once January (next week, eek!) hits. A new decade is starting, can you believe it?
